Off-road Adventures- Ford Explorer versus the Kia Telluride

The Ford Explorer is built on a capable rear-wheel-drive platform. Suppose you require additional control when off-roading or in inclement weather. In these instances, Intelligent four-wheel drive (4WD) can be added to the Explorer. Plus, there’s the Ford Terrain Management system which features seven selectable drive modes.

You choose Normal for your daily commute and Trail when you abandon the paved road for something more rugged. On 4WD models, the dense Snow/Sand mode improves traction when the surface is dense and soft. The Slippery drive mode is useful during damp weather. Slippery mode allows you to fine-tune your steering, suspension, and throttle for a more secure drive. When towing large loads, Explorer drivers can select the Tow/Haul mode to increase their level of control. Lastly, there is the Eco mode. It reduces the output of your Explorer to enhance fuel economy on long trips. Hill Descent Control and Trailer Sway Control are also included by Ford. They improve the handling and cargo capacity of your Explorer.

Standard on every trim level of the Kia Telluride is a front-wheel-drive (FWD) platform, which is utilized with an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system available. FWD models also feature selectable Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart driving modes. Snow and AWD Lock modes are added to AWD variants.

Kia's front-wheel-drive (FWD) platform is significantly different from Ford's rear-wheel-drive system. Rear-wheel-drive vehicles have sportier driving dynamics. The edge here goes to Ford Explorer.
