2018 Explorer: Engine Performance Specs

• 3.5L Ti-VCT V6: 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque.
• Available 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4: 280 horses and 310 lb-ft.

The base V6 is perfect for most daily driving situations, but the available EcoBoost® engines are tuned to maximize fuel efficiency (the 4-cylinder) and snappy acceleration (the V6).

Ford Explorer Trim Levels

Five Ford Explorer trims are available in total, starting with the Base. It offers the standard 3.5L V6 engine as well as the SYNC® infotainment interface, including a 4.2-inch color display, Bluetooth® wireless and four speakers. The XLT trim adds a few more conveniences, like push-button start, keyless access and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

What is the difference between the Ford Explorer Limited and Sport trims? Mainly, the engines. The Limited trim is powered by the efficient 4-cylinder EcoBoost®, while the Sport uses the more powerful EcoBoost® V6, adding a sport-tuned suspension and the Terrain Management System™ mentioned earlier.
