Ford vs Toyota Trucks

Compare New Ford Trucks to the Toyota Competition

Looking at new trucks? It's important to compare top truck brands like Ford and Toyota. At Butler Ford, we help Georgia truck buyers make informed decisions. Ford trucks have best-in-class capability ratings, exclusive features, and award-winning traits. Can Toyota trucks keep up? See how a new Ford truck fares against the truck competition.

Performance

The Ford truck lineup offers diesel engines, whereas the Toyota lineup does not. Toyota trucks are powered by i-FORCE gas engines or i-FORCE MAX hybrid engines. With a diesel truck built by Ford, you can tow more. Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 engines - delivering up to 1,200 pound-feet of torque - power select Ford Super Duty® models. The i-FORCE Twin-Turbo V6 in the Toyota Tundra outputs 389 horsepower, and the electrified option generates 437 horsepower. The EcoBoost® V6 in the F-150 delivers 400 horsepower, and a High Output version pumps out 450 horsepower to top the competition. The full-size option in the Ford truck lineup also offers V8 engine power, which Toyota does not match.

The Toyota Tacoma maxes out at 326 horsepower, while the comparable Ford Ranger delivers 405 max horsepower through an EcoBoost® V6 engine. Comparing gas mileage? The Ford Maverick has a standard hybrid engine to match the hybrid powertrains of the Tacoma and Tundra. Earning 42 miles per gallon, the Ford Maverick is far more fuel-efficient than the hybrid truck competition; Toyota Hybrid models return 20 fewer miles per gallon. Across the lineup, Ford trucks have more powerful and efficient engines to claim a victory point in performance.

Capability

The Ford truck lineup boasts several best-in-class towing capacities. For full-size trucks, the Ford F-150, with a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 13,500 pounds, hauls more than the Toyota Tundra, which tops out in the towing department at 12,000 pounds. In the mid-size class, the Ford Ranger (7,500 pounds) can haul more than the Tacoma (6,500 pounds). Ford Super Duty® trucks can pull gooseneck trailers up to 40,000 pounds, and several configurations can tow north of 25,000 pounds. The Toyota truck lineup has no answer to this towing prowess. Georgia drivers and professionals will appreciate the superior towing capacities of Ford trucks.

Design

You have the power of choice with Ford trucks. There are several cab styles at our Ford dealership, including SuperCrew, Super Cab, Crew Cab, and Regular Cab. The Toyota truck lineup offers CrewMax, Double Cab, and XtraCab styles. Ford trucks offer Pro Power Onboardâ„¢, an exclusive setup that gives you electrical power at the ready, so you're in control at both the campsite and the worksite.

Ford trucks offer a masterclass in design. A unique Pro Access Tailgate can swing out a full 100 degrees in models like the F-150; the tailgate on the Tundra doesn't swing out. Ford Super Duty® trucks have a fully boxed, military-grade steel frame, reinforced with crossmembers to withstand extreme weight. While Toyota trucks are known for reliability, Ford trucks rely on this design to maximize torsional rigidity for long-term durability. Trucks like the Ford Maverick have unique design features like the FLEXBED®.

Technology

On the tech front, Ford trucks offer SYNC® 4 and Ford Digital Experience, compared to Toyota Audio Multimedia systems in Toyota trucks. For driver-assist technology, Ford Co-Pilot360® goes head-to-head with Toyota Safety Sense™. Ford trucks offer BlueCruise hands-free towing; there's no comparable feature in the Toyota truck lineup. Ford trucks also offer more advanced trailering features, such as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ and Pro Trailer Backup Assist™.

Truck Lineup - Options

Ford offers a complete heavy-duty lineup. There are no heavy-duty options in the Toyota truck lineup. Tackle more demanding jobs with a F-250, F-350, or F-450 from the Ford Super Duty®. The Ford F-150 offers six engine options and three cab sizes, compared to the three powertrains and two cab styles for the Toyota Tundra. Both truck lineups have a mid-size pickup, but Ford offers an exclusive compact truck (Maverick) and a fully electric truck (F-150 Lightning). Ford has a deeper truck lineup, giving you more options.
